END OF TABOO. Pay transparency – evolution or revolution?

05.11.2025

The principle of equal pay for work of equal value has been codified in the Labour Code for over twenty years. However, simply enshrining this principle in law has proven insufficient, as the pay gap remains a persistent problem both in Poland and internationally. An amendment to the Labour Code, transposing the EU directive on pay transparency, will come into force on 24 December this year. Nevertheless, this initial change will only be limited to the recruitment process. The details regarding the crucial second stage of implementation are still unknown, as the Ministry continues to work on the final Polish regulations. Poland, alongside other EU Member States, has until 7 June 2026 to fully implement the directive. – Michał Włodarczyk discusses this with Dominika Krysińska, expert and lecturer at the ICAN Institute, Sylwia Góralczyk, HR Director at Amiblu Polska, and Paulina Frasunkiewicz, Director of Training Development and Expert Area at the ICAN Institute.
